We are planning a child-friendly wedding celebration.
Sermiers is about 10 minutes drive outside of Reims, in the heart of the Champagne district. Reims is easily accessible by TGV from Charles de Gaulle International Airport, a trip of about 2 hours. There is no public transportation from Reims to Sermiers, but taking a taxi or renting a car is possible. Sermiers itself is tiny and easily walkable.
Sermiers is a small village outside of Reims. The great cathedral of Reims is where (almost) all Kings of France were crowned, and the city itself has a history dating back to pre-Roman times, founded around 80 BCE. During WWI, the battle lines passed close by, and the city and region were heavily damaged in the fighting. The nearby Montagne de Reims (where Sermiers is located) is the site of many producers of fine Champagne.
Sermiers is located on the Route de Champagne, a marked road that you can follow by car to discover the landscapes of the Champagne area. At many places, you can stop for cellar visit and/or champagne tasting (note that the Feneuil-Coppée champagne will propose a guided visit for us on July 4th). One special wine cellar to visit is the Cave aux Coquillages, with its tunnels teeming with fossils.
Sermiers offers several possibilities for hiking and bicycling, either in the forest or in the vineyards. There are several marked paths starting from the village and leading through the forest. There is also a "GR" (Grande Randonnée) track going through the vineyards; in particular, it is possible to walk from Sermiers to Chamery (where the cellar visit will take place) following the GR. 30 min away by car, you can discover the Faux de Verzy, a forest of 300 year old mutant beeches.
Nearby Reims has many attractions. It has two cathedrals on the UNESCO World Heritage list (Notre Dame and Abbaye Saint-Remi). Reims has extensive art deco architecture from when the city was rebuilt after WWI, as well as memorials to the fallen of that conflict. More information with the Reims tourist office.
